Anytime of the year is a good time to drive through Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Each season provides wonderful opportunities for wildlife observation, and surprising landscapes in this rare oasis. All roads in the refuge are dirt roads. Check our Facebook page or call (775) 372-5435 for current road conditions before your trip.
Dirt road driving tips:
- Traction on dirt roads is not the same as on a paved road. Please slow down and observe all speed limit and wildlife crossing signs.
- Dirt roads are more likely to have holes, dips, and uneven ground. Watch for uneven areas.
- Increase your following distance from the car ahead of you. Vehicles will stir up dust, making it difficult to see and/or kick up rocks, which could cause damage to your car.
