Cache River NWR is located in the Big Woods of the Arkansas Delta and has long, hot summers, and cold, wet winters. Accommodations are limited. Biting insects, ticks, snakes, thick brush, and briars are common, so it is recommended that visitors bring drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, wear long pants, and site-appropriate foot wear. If you will be traveling any distance off trails or roadways, it is highly recommended that you bring a compass or a GPS to help you reliably navigate back to your entry point in a timely manner. To make your visit to the Cache River NWR a safe and enjoyable one, please plan accordingly.

Services
A Visitor Contact Center is located inside the refuge headquarters building and has wildlife displays such as species and habitat exhibits along with taxidermist mounts. Visitors can also purchase large format refuge maps, firewood permits, and Special Use Permits (SUPs).

Established in 1986, Cache River National Wildlife Refuge encompasses approximately 73,000 acres along the Cache River, White River, and Bayou DeView to safeguard vital wetland ecosystems. As a Wetland of International Importance, it serves as a sanctuary for neotropical migratory birds and waterfowl while offering world-class hunting and fishing opportunities. The landscape features a tapestry of meandering channels, oxbow lakes, and old-growth bottomland hardwood forests that visitors can explore via the Bayou DeView Water Trail. Whether hunting, birdwatching, or boating, visitors find the refuge to be a premier destination for connecting with nature's biodiversity.
