About
Camas National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1937 to manage habitat for nesting waterfowl and migratory birds. The refuge is named for Camas Creek, which winds through the area feeding wetlands vital to wildlife and native plants like the camas bulb. Historically, the land served as ancestral hunting grounds for the Shoshone and Bannock tribes before becoming a large livestock ranch in the late 1800s. Today, it is part of the Southeast Idaho National Wildlife Refuge Complex and provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.
