Working with others is at the core of how we operate, and through those partnerships, we develop a number of conservation projects across the Caribbean, from conserving Puerto Rican parrots in our forests to working to improve some of our most important coastal areas. Learn more about some of the key efforts we have underway.

Puerto Rican Parrot Recovery

The Puerto Rican Parrot Recovery Program works to restore the species by managing wild and captive populations, expanding habitat, and releasing captive-reared parrots in Puerto Rico. Its goals also include coordinating research, providing veterinary care, promoting public education, and advancing conservation partnerships.

Coastal Conservation in the Caribbean

The Coastal Program was established in the Caribbean in 2005 to help individuals and organizations conserve and restore coastal ecosystems through technical and financial assistance. Participants collaborate with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on projects such as wetland restoration, native planting, habitat improvement, and mangrove conservation, generally maintaining these practices for at least 10 years.

Working With Private Landowners in the Caribbean

The Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program provides voluntary technical and financial assistance to eligible private landowners and organizations for habitat restoration and conservation. Supported activities include reforestation, wetland and riparian restoration, invasive-species control, and conservation of threatened or at-risk species.
