Red Wolf Recovery
The Red Wolf Recovery Program works to restore the endangered red wolf through wild population monitoring, captive breeding, releases, and cross-fostering. In 2026, four wild litters produced 23 pups, with at least 12 remaining, while the program continued addressing mortalities and managing acclimation pens in eastern North Carolina.

Research in Eastern North Carolina
Eastern North Carolina projects use cooperative agreements and grants to support research with the U.S. Geological Survey, North Carolina universities, and other institutions. Studies focus on species population health, conservation research, aquatic techniques, and outcome-based monitoring.
