Plan Your Visit

About
Egmont Key NWR was established in 1974 and is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the island’s diverse natural, cultural, and historical features. Located at the mouth of Tampa Bay, this remote island preserves the remains of historic Fort Dade and an over 100-year-old lighthouse while providing critical habitat for nesting sea turtles and over 30,000 pairs of birds. It is cooperatively managed as Egmont Key State Park and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its role in the Seminole Indian Wars, Civil War, and Spanish-American War.
