About
Lake Thibadeau National Wildlife Refuge encompasses land reserved from public domain and 13 refuge and flowage easements on private lands. Established in 1937, the refuge serves as a breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. Its history is rooted in Great Depression-era programs like the Works Progress Administration, which focused on water conservation during the Dust Bowl. Today, the refuge consists of four main water units, primarily providing seasonal habitat on private lands.
