Services
Refuge staff use a variety of tools to mimic the dynamic processes that, until recently, naturally occurred for thousands of years. Prescribed burns, grazing, managing water levels and controlling exotic plants are just a few of the tools that are used to manage a healthy, productive, and diverse marsh ecosystem.
About
McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge provides vital feeding and resting habitat for thousands of migrating waterfowl and songbirds, including the largest concentration of American alligators in Texas. Established in 1980, the refuge encompasses over 58,000 acres of marshland dedicated to wildlife conservation and public recreation. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hunting, fishing, wildlife photography, and bird watching within this protected ecosystem.
