Fishing
Fishing is permitted year-round in designated areas of the refuge, with the Upper Lake and North Marsh offering the best fishing opportunities. The most common fishes found in the refuge waters are carp, largemouth bass, green sunfish, and catfish.
Fishing is subject to all applicable State, Federal, and Refuge regulations. North Marsh is closed to fishing from October 1 to February 1. Upper Lake and Middle Marsh can be fished year-round, however the water levels in Middle Marsh fluctuate depending on the time of year. Due to the high alkalinity of Lower Lake, fish cannot survive.
To prevent the spread of invasive species into the refuge, there is no trailer access. Watercraft are allowed on Upper Lake from February 1 through September 30. North Marsh is closed to boating year-round.
The refuge provides a hunting and fishing brochure below in which hunters and anglers can find the latest hunting and fishing regulations.
