Law Enforcement

Protecting resources and people on our refuges is the fundamental responsibility of Federal Wildlife Officers. The mission of the Refuge Law Enforcement Program is to support the administration of the National Wildlife Refuge System through the management and protection of natural, historic and cultural resources, property, and people on lands and waters of our national wildlife refuges.

While education and interpretation are primarily used to inform the visitors of laws and regulations in place to safeguard wildlife and their habitat, federal wildlife officers do enforce Title 50 Code of Federal Regulations (Wildlife and Fisheries) along with other federal and state laws on refuge lands related to wildlife, motor vehicle, and criminal laws. 

To ensure a safe and rewarding visitor experience and to safeguard the refuge’s natural resources, report wildlife violations and suspicious activity to an officer any time you see them.
Reports can also be made through the following resources:

• 911 - Report Emergency / Medical / Fire 
• 303-289-0232 for non-emergency events, general law enforcement questions, or to report violations on the Refuge. Inquiries can also be emailed to rockymountainarsenal@fws.gov
• 1-844-FWS-TIPS (397-8477) or FWS_Tips@fws.gov, to report violations on federal refuge lands.
• 303-291-7227 to report wildlife incidents not on federal refuge lands, contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife (Northeast Region) at this number. Wildlife reports after hours can be made to Colorado State Patrol dispatch non-emergency: 303-239-4501.
