About
Seal Island is a critical colonial seabird nesting site in the Gulf of Maine, supporting puffins, razorbills, and one of the region's largest tern colonies. Managed in partnership with the National Audubon Society, the refuge successfully reintroduced Atlantic puffins in the 1970s and is now recognized as Maine's largest gray seal pupping island. Although historically used as a Navy bombing target, it now serves as a vital stopover for migrating songbirds, shorebirds, and raptors.
