About
Handy Brake National Wildlife Refuge is located just north of Bastrop in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. Established in 1988, the refuge expanded to 501 acres through a fee title transfer and a lease from International Paper Company. The habitat is primarily permanent wetland, supporting wintering waterfowl and wading birds.
