About
White Horse Hill National Game Preserve is a 994-acre refuge supporting unique communities of oak, ash, basswood, and aspen woodlands, mixed-grass prairie, and wetlands. Established in 1904 as a national park, it later became a big game preserve and was transferred to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1931. The refuge actively manages populations of American bison, elk, and prairie dogs while hosting more than 80,000 visitors annually for wildlife observation and nature photography.
