Birding
During the spring and fall seasons, migratory birds find their way back to the refuge to use it as a migratory stopover site, rejuvenating themselves before continuing their journeys that can span hundred if not thousands of miles. Others can spend the winter in typically mild weather, or nest during the summer to raise young. Be ready to observe these birds throughout the year with different species peaking during the four seasons, some for very short periods of time before they move on. Observe these birds from our Fred Quintana Crane Lake Overlook and Melton Pond Overlook at the Visitor Center.
